Influencer use and ASA rulings

News that the ASA have banned adverts for Huel and Zoe because they featured an influencer/celebrity who had a interest which wasn’t disclosed within the advertising highlights the need for care when using influencers in promotion. Whilst it is quite acceptable to use influencers, and can make a massive difference, being open about it being a commercial relationship is important.

Steven Bartlett has links to both Zoe and Huel but failed to disclose his interest as an investor in Zoe or as a Director of Huel, as a consequence the Facebook ads he was featured in have been banned.

As we repeatedly mention during our courses for CIM Professional and Digital Marketing qualifications – “Make sure you stick within the law”!!
